What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.14.0 release:

Free your hands with Vuforia Studio and
 the RealWear Navigator 520

We have added the latest Realwear Navigator 520 as an
 officially supported Vuforia Studio device

In addition to the RealWear Navigator 500 and HMT, we are excited to announce that we now include support for the RealWear Navigator 520. Boasting a larger screen with twice the resolution of previous models - the Navigator 520 allows your end users to stay hands-free with 720 HD content. You will notice that we have included a new screen size to the canvas so that you can start creating content for the Navigator 520 straight away.

More about 2D Eyewear Projects

New Bounding Box API:
Easiest way to place dynamic content

Our newest API provides information about the bounding box and location of each part of a 3D Model. You can use this information in an experience to position widgets (3D Image, Label, etc.) relative to a model, or individual parts within a model.

What does this mean for you? Well, you can create your content a lot faster! Simply upload your CAD and our API will allow you to easily place dynamic content straight away.

Supported Device Reminder:
  For Windows and Vuzix Devices

The 4-month depreciation period for selected Windows and Vuzix devices is now over.

You will still be able to use Vuforia View to consume published experiences on these devices, but Technical Support will no longer be available. As of 2024, Vuforia View will no longer be available on the Microsoft and Vuzix App Stores.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Shared Machines - An issue was resolved where shared Windows 10 machines could not run Vuforia Studio for all users.
  • Older Versions of Windows 10  - An issue was resolved where Vuforia Studio would not open when running on older versions of Windows 10.

What's New in Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.13.0 release:

Introducing the New Model Target Editor
 with Enhanced Configurations

The quickest and easiest way to configure Standard & Advanced Model Targets - directly inside Vuforia Studio

Our new Model Target Editor includes a simplified step-by-step user experience for you to configure Standard and Advanced Model Targets directly in Vuforia Studio. Simply click "Configure Model Target" and let the step-by-step navigation guide you through your Model Target creation.  But that's not all, the new integration also gives you access to some cool new capabilities such as Automatic Coloring, model simplification for Advanced Model Targets, the ability to add multiple Advanced Views, and much more.

Configure a Model Target in Studio

Advanced Model Targets
Now Available for On-Prem Installations!

You heard it right - on-premises installations can now take advantage of Advanced Model Targets (AMT). This is a major step for customers with on-prem installations wanting to create 360º object recognition. If your organization could benefit from AMTs, make sure to reach out to your Vuforia Studio administrator so that they can update your Vuforia Experience Service (VES) to 9.13.0. If you are the Vuforia Studio admin, simply click the link below to request your secret keys for AMTs - and we will get you up and running in no time!

Advanced Model Targets - Instant recognition from any angle

That's right! Advanced Model Targets (AMT) are a big deal if you are looking to track an object from all sides or multiple pre-defined positions. In comparison to standard tracking, AMTs support the recognition and tracking of an object from a range of up to 360 degrees, without requiring the user to manually align the view with the orientation of the physical object. Perfect for use cases with large, stationary objects that you can walk around, such as cars or tractors.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Vuforia Studio - An issue was resolved where the orientation of a Model Target was incorrect after duplicating a project.
  • Vuforia View  - An issue was resolved where the Chalk widget no longer launched the Chalk app.
  • Vuforia View  - An issue was resolved where videos, documents, and audio files from a linked ThingWorx file repository would not load in a 3D Eyewear experience.

What's New in Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.12.0 release:

Improvements & Bug Fixes:
A clean-up to make room for more exciting features

This month, we took the chance to use our sprints to clean up a bunch of those pesky bugs and implement some of the most requested improvements. So keep the feedback coming (via the community or your Vuforia contact person - we hear you!) and your eyes open for future releases.

Here are just a few of the release notes from the Studio 9.12.0 release:

  • SSL-Settings - The ssl-settings.json file has been moved to the ProgramData directory for streamlined SCCM deployment. (Windows only)
  • Model Targets - An issue was resolved where canceling Advanced Model Target training was not working properly.
  • Area Target Widget - An issue was resolved where the Area Target widget moves from its expected position on the canvas, causing augmentations to appear shifted.
  • Version Information - An issue was resolved where the version number of Vuforia Studio was not displayed in the About Vuforia Studio window.
  • External Data Entities - An issue was resolved when a user tried adding additional Properties, Services, or Events under External Data, the Entity was not preselected

What's New in Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.11.0 release:

Advanced Camera Control:
Quickly take sharper pictures

Advanced camera controls are now available for all users to help take sharper pictures on iOS devices. By default, we have Tap to Focus turned off - this uses the device’s automatic focus areas and exposure settings. However, if you would like to take control of the focus area, simply turn on Tap to Focus to manually select the focus of interest by tapping on a specific area of the screen.

We've changed how Vuforia Studio Checks for Updates

You will no longer be automatically prompted with the Update Available window when a new version of Vuforia Studio is available. Beginning in version 9.11.0, you must manually check for updates by navigating to the Vuforia Studio menu in the upper-right corner and selecting Check for Updates. Once the Check for Updates window appears, compare Your version with the version that is displayed above the list of new features.

For more information, see Update Vuforia Studio to the Latest Version.

Vuforia View - Update on Supported Devices

As of September 2023, Vuforia View will no longer be supported on a selection of Windows and Vuzix devices.

During the 4-month deprecation period, Technical Support will still be available, and PTC will continue to provide maintenance and security updates for Vuforia View on the devices listed in the link below. However, no enhancements or new features will be released for Vuforia View on these devices.

After September 2023, you will still be able to use Vuforia View to consume published experiences on these devices, but Technical Support will no longer be available.

What's New in Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.10.0 release:

Vuforia Studio is now available for download
on the Microsoft Store for Windows OS

We have made it easier for you and your users to install Vuforia Studio. While the existing Vuforia Studio installer will still be available in 9.10.0, we encourage you to use the new Microsoft Store download (appxbundle) that is now available. The legacy installer will no longer be available on the PTC Software Download page with the next release of Vuforia Studio.

An Easier Way To Manage Your Growing Studio Environments

This update is exciting for all Vuforia Studio environments with growing user bases. Your users can now intuitively install and update Vuforia Studio directly from the Microsoft Store. What's more, IT Administrators will now have even more capabilities to support their user base at scale - with the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager & Command Line Deployments both now available.

Sunset: Vuforia Area Target Creator App

The time has come to sunset our “Vuforia Area Target Creator” app. It will be removed from the App Store on April 30th. We recommend extracting and saving all Area Targets from the Vuforia Area Target Creator app before this date. For information about retrieving your Area Targets, see the “Extracting Area Targets” section under Testing Area Targets.

But fear not, we have something new and improved for you...

...Introducing: Vuforia Creator App

The “Vuforia Creator” app will be your new favorite place to capture Area Targets going forward. It is available for iPhone and iPad on the Apple App Store with more functionality and a streamlined interface.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Check for Updates Removed from Mac Installer  - Because the Check for Updates action does not apply to Mac installations, it has been removed from the Vuforia Studio menu. For more information about updating Vuforia Studio for Mac, see the “Mac” section in  Update Vuforia Studio to the Latest Version
  • DGN Files  - An issue was resolved where the conversion of .dgn files resulted in the .pvz file only containing structure (.pvs) and no geometry (.ol)
