What's New in Vuforia Studio?

With 2025 now fully underway, we are delighted to deliver the first release of the year. This feature-rich release brings new upgrades that work to elevate Model Target tracking capabilities, while simplifying authoring for several functions and appearance setups. Read on to learn more about Vuforia Studio 9.24.0.

New: State Based Model Target Capabilities

We are excited to introduce new State-based Model Target Capabilities for Model Targets. With this new addition to Studio, customers can continuously track an object that is capable of being in different states and configurations. So, whether an object has parts that need to be added, removed, or even manipulated, customers can still easily track their model targets.

This enhancement gives customers the ability to build experiences that support service technicians and factory workers with assembly procedures. Customers can easily import files and data from Creo Illustrate, CAD models, and even Windchill to allow for a seamless experience with state-based model targets.

For more information see: Model Target

New: Predefined Shaders for 3D Models

Take control of 3D objects with our predefined set of shaders in Studio. With this update, customers can utilize standard shaders to build better experiences around specific parts of models, or the entire model, all without requiring expertise in shader programming. These parameters can be applied and utilized to:

  • Highlight a selected model item.
  • Use “Flow” to indicate the direction of a movement.
  • Use different Cut shaders to focus on inside geometry.
  • And much more! Please see our Help Center documentation for our complete list of shader options.

For more information, see: Shaders

New: Number Input Widget

In our new release, we are introducing a standalone Number Input Widget. Users previously had to define either text or number type input within the Text Input Widget to include numerical data. We have simplified authoring user input fields by separating Number Input into its own widget. This way it will be much more straightforward to author experiences requiring numeric user input.

For more information, see: Number Input

New: Zinc Widget for Remote Assistance

We are excited to introduce Zinc, a remote communication and collaboration tool that can be utilized to boost efficiency. With the new Zinc widget, users can easily access remote assistance from experts via the PTC Zinc App.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.23.0 release:

New: Studio Experience API Extensions
Perform design review geometry changes interactively during AR sessions

Did you know AR is a great way to view 3D designs next to/on top of physical objects during design reviews?

Our customers love to use Vuforia Studio for their design reviews, as viewing 3D objects directly in the real world is a quick and easy way to uncover areas for improvement. Our new API takes this to the next level. Now, you can use the userpick event to return geometry information while in the AR experience. This means you can now mark exact geometric information directly inside the AR viewing experience and then use this exact location to enrich the authoring experience with POIs and other augmentations.

For more information, see:

Geometric Information Mapping with the userpick Event

New: Tracking Status API Now Available
Use AR for faster and more reliable As-built comparisons

Do you have inspection use cases that require As-built comparisons between a physical object and the CAD design? Or are you looking to distinguish actual differences vs. tracking inaccuracies?

Our new tracking-status API now permits Experiences to react on unreliable tracking, allowing you to build your own business logic linked to tracking status or tracking status changes.

For more information, see:

Tracking-status API

New: Multibyte Characters Now Fully Supported
  We speak your language!

You asked - we heard! This is an important update for any and all customers looking to use naming conventions in non-English characters. We are happy to announce that we now fully support multibyte characters to ensure all our Studio customers can name items in their language, including file names or URLs that Vuforia is using and that customers would like to access.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Vuforia View iOS/Android - iOS/iPadOS 18 and Android 15 are now supported.
  • ThingWorx Support  - Studio now supports ThingWorx 9.6.
  • Model Rendering and Lighting  - Improvements were made to the rendering and lighting environment for 3D models in Vuforia Studio to be consistent with other PTC products such as Creo Parametric and Creo Illustrate.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.22.0 release:

Vuforia SSO just got more versatile:
Now supporting MS Entra ID and OKTA!

We are excited to announce that Vuforia has significantly broadened its SSO support to include the most widely used SSO providers, MS Entra ID and OKTA. This is excellent news if your organization is already using MS Entra ID or OKTA, as our documentation for validated and tested configurations should help you to get up and running with SSO even faster.

The inclusion of MS Entra ID and OKTA not only adds two additional capabilities to the existing support for PingFederate, but these updates also mean that your SSO experts should now be able to configure any other SSO provider that supports the protocols SAML, OAuth 2.0, and OpenID.

Check out our documentation to learn more:

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Model Target Recognition  - An issue was resolved where tracking became unstable if a model had arbitrary scale factors.
  • Duplicate Bindings Expressions - An issue was resolved where binding expressions were duplicated in some projects, affecting performance.
  • Model Items - An issue was resolved where deleting one model item removed all other model items from the model.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.21.0 release:

New Observation for Stationary Objects preset:
Initiate Model Target recognition even when close to a large object

Are you working with Vuforia Studio to track large objects such as cars, stationary tabletop objects, or large machinery? If yes, you have probably found yourself walking far away from your object to initiate the model-based tracking. Our new Observation for Stationary Objects preset is here to make your life much easier!

Users can now define Model Target viewing ranges much closer to the physical object than the "Dome preset." This results in a more seamless Model Target recognition, especially when the user is close to a large object. Observation for Stationary Objects guide view is now available for Advanced Views for objects that can be recognized from any angle when standing around them but not below them.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.19.0 release:

New project management features:
 Overwrite notifications and renaming options

We have some great news for users that are sharing an Experience Service. To help avoid overwriting projects being saved under duplicate names, we have added new notifications to warn users when a project of the same name already exists on the Experience Service. Not only will this help to avoid overwriting existing projects, but it should also help keep your projects clean and up to date.

But that is not all! We have also added additional functionality to rename the project directly within a project in the header bar where the project name is displayed. So if you receive a warning of an existing project, you can simply rename the project straight away.

Important Update:
Please upgrade Vuforia View

We have made some important updates under the hood to improve Image Target generation and to prepare for some exciting new features. To take advantage of these improvements (and to continue to use Image Targets with projects published with Vuforia Studio 9.19+) all users must ensure that they are running Vuforia View 9.16 or above.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.17.0 release:

More Control for Your Data:
New Options to Disable Publishing Offline/Public Experiences

Do you have sensitive data in some of your applications? Would you like to control which experiences can be downloaded to devices? Or, maybe you would like to require users to authenticate before opening an experience?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we have added two new parameters to this release that give you more control over who/how your users interact with your data.

Single Sign-On (SSO)
  Is it right for you?

Since launching SSO support for Vuforia Studio, we have had plenty of customer feedback because, let's face it, it is a big decision!

To help administrators decide which authentication method fits their organization best, we have not only collected all your feedback but also made some major improvements and additions to our SSO documentation. Moreover, we took the most common troubleshooting areas from our users and added plenty of new documentation for administrators installing and configuring their on-premises Experience Service. Since SSO authentication is an important topic and an even more important decision, we will continue to collect your feedback and enhance our documentation to ensure an optimal installation and configuration experience! In the meantime, check out some of the big changes here:

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.16.0 release:

New Feature: Duplicate a view
for experiences requiring multiple tracking types

Do you have Vuforia Studio experiences that require both spatial and model tracking? Maybe you don’t have the real-world object at hand when you are preparing your model target experience in the office – but you would still like to test everything on a spatial target before you send it to the field. If you want to improve efficiency and have an experience with two tracking methods, you will love this new Vuforia Studio enhancement: Duplicate a view!

Now, there is no need to start from zero to create a project with different target types. Simply hit the "Duplicate" button on a view to make an exact copy of the view - including all the widgets, bindings, services, and code. Then, all you have to do is swap out the target type for a new one, and you are good to go!

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from this release:

  • Dynamic Bounding Box Info at Runtime - Bounding box and location information can now be generated for any model at runtime (iOS and Android).
  • New Project Access Configuration - A new option in the Vuforia Experience Service installer allows administrators to disable publishing projects with public access in Vuforia Studio.
  • ThingWorx 9.4  - Vuforia Studio now supports ThingWorx 9.4.
  • Preview (Blank White Page) - An issue was resolved where clicking Preview resulted in a blank white page.
  • ThingWorx Service Replies Not Updated - An issue was resolved where ThingWorx service replies displayed old data during runtime instead of the most recent.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.15.0 release:

New Feature: Visual Tracking Status
Helps Frontline Workers Maintain Stable Tracking

We have added a new feature to help frontline workers get the most out of AR experiences. It is a first step in helping users maintain stable tracking in certain environments.

To try it out, simply select "Show Tracking Status" from the menu when inside an experience. The on-screen prompts and statuses will guide workers to either reduce motion, improve lighting, or bring the object back into view when tracking is unstable.

JavaScript Information for Widget Properties

Do you consider yourself an advanced Vuforia Studio user? Are you interested in getting under the hood to create even more customized and dynamic experiences?

One of the big advantages of Vuforia Studio is that you have the choice to either use our simplified drag-and-drop user interface for quick and easy AR content creation or be as creative as you like by using the powerful JavaScript capabilities. To help our advanced JavaScript users, we have expanded our property, services, and events resource tables for all widgets. This should help you to stay as creative as you want to be when creating highly customized and dynamic experiences.

  • Model Target Acquisition - An issue was resolved where the acquisition effect was not working for Advanced Model Targets on iOS and Android devices.
  • Wayfinder Performance  - An issue was resolved where the performance of the 3D canvas slowed considerably as more and more Waypoints were added to an experience.
  • Model Target Tracking  - An issue was resolved where a reused Model Target was not tracking in Vuforia View when used in another project with the same Model Target configuration.
