What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.21.0 release:

New Observation for Stationary Objects preset:
Initiate Model Target recognition even when close to a large object

Are you working with Vuforia Studio to track large objects such as cars, stationary tabletop objects, or large machinery? If yes, you have probably found yourself walking far away from your object to initiate the model-based tracking. Our new Observation for Stationary Objects preset is here to make your life much easier!

Users can now define Model Target viewing ranges much closer to the physical object than the "Dome preset." This results in a more seamless Model Target recognition, especially when the user is close to a large object. Observation for Stationary Objects guide view is now available for Advanced Views for objects that can be recognized from any angle when standing around them but not below them.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.19.0 release:

New project management features:
 Overwrite notifications and renaming options

We have some great news for users that are sharing an Experience Service. To help avoid overwriting projects being saved under duplicate names, we have added new notifications to warn users when a project of the same name already exists on the Experience Service. Not only will this help to avoid overwriting existing projects, but it should also help keep your projects clean and up to date.

But that is not all! We have also added additional functionality to rename the project directly within a project in the header bar where the project name is displayed. So if you receive a warning of an existing project, you can simply rename the project straight away.

Important Update:
Please upgrade Vuforia View

We have made some important updates under the hood to improve Image Target generation and to prepare for some exciting new features. To take advantage of these improvements (and to continue to use Image Targets with projects published with Vuforia Studio 9.19+) all users must ensure that they are running Vuforia View 9.16 or above.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Mac OS - An issue was resolved where the Open button was not visible on the Vuforia Studio launch window on Mac OS.
  • Model Target Editor  - An issue was resolved where a Model Target widget could not be placed on a model when the model is underneath the canvas floor.
  • Time Series Chart | List Widgets  - An issue was resolved where the drop-down field was not showing for the Time Series Chart and List widgets.
  • Vuforia View - An issue was resolved where View on HoloLens occasionally crashed in scan mode.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.17.0 release:

More Control for Your Data:
New Options to Disable Publishing Offline/Public Experiences

Do you have sensitive data in some of your applications? Would you like to control which experiences can be downloaded to devices? Or, maybe you would like to require users to authenticate before opening an experience?

If you answered yes to any of the above, we have added two new parameters to this release that give you more control over who/how your users interact with your data.

Single Sign-On (SSO)
  Is it right for you?

Since launching SSO support for Vuforia Studio, we have had plenty of customer feedback because, let's face it, it is a big decision!

To help administrators decide which authentication method fits their organization best, we have not only collected all your feedback but also made some major improvements and additions to our SSO documentation. Moreover, we took the most common troubleshooting areas from our users and added plenty of new documentation for administrators installing and configuring their on-premises Experience Service. Since SSO authentication is an important topic and an even more important decision, we will continue to collect your feedback and enhance our documentation to ensure an optimal installation and configuration experience! In the meantime, check out some of the big changes here:

Is SSO right for you?           Before you install the experience

  • Model Target Editor  - An issue was resolved where the Model Target Editor showed the Guide View for a model that was replaced with a different model.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.16.0 release:

New Feature: Duplicate a view
for experiences requiring multiple tracking types

Do you have Vuforia Studio experiences that require both spatial and model tracking? Maybe you don’t have the real-world object at hand when you are preparing your model target experience in the office – but you would still like to test everything on a spatial target before you send it to the field. If you want to improve efficiency and have an experience with two tracking methods, you will love this new Vuforia Studio enhancement: Duplicate a view!

Now, there is no need to start from zero to create a project with different target types. Simply hit the "Duplicate" button on a view to make an exact copy of the view - including all the widgets, bindings, services, and code. Then, all you have to do is swap out the target type for a new one, and you are good to go!

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from this release:

  • Dynamic Bounding Box Info at Runtime - Bounding box and location information can now be generated for any model at runtime (iOS and Android).
  • New Project Access Configuration - A new option in the Vuforia Experience Service installer allows administrators to disable publishing projects with public access in Vuforia Studio.
  • ThingWorx 9.4  - Vuforia Studio now supports ThingWorx 9.4.
  • Preview (Blank White Page) - An issue was resolved where clicking Preview resulted in a blank white page.
  • ThingWorx Service Replies Not Updated - An issue was resolved where ThingWorx service replies displayed old data during runtime instead of the most recent.

What's New In Vuforia Studio?

Here's a spotlight on what's new in the Studio 9.15.0 release:

New Feature: Visual Tracking Status
Helps Frontline Workers Maintain Stable Tracking

We have added a new feature to help frontline workers get the most out of AR experiences. It is a first step in helping users maintain stable tracking in certain environments.

To try it out, simply select "Show Tracking Status" from the menu when inside an experience. The on-screen prompts and statuses will guide workers to either reduce motion, improve lighting, or bring the object back into view when tracking is unstable.

JavaScript Information for Widget Properties

Do you consider yourself an advanced Vuforia Studio user? Are you interested in getting under the hood to create even more customized and dynamic experiences?

One of the big advantages of Vuforia Studio is that you have the choice to either use our simplified drag-and-drop user interface for quick and easy AR content creation or be as creative as you like by using the powerful JavaScript capabilities. To help our advanced JavaScript users, we have expanded our property, services, and events resource tables for all widgets. This should help you to stay as creative as you want to be when creating highly customized and dynamic experiences.

But that's not all!

With each release, we have a ton of new improvements. Here are just a few other highlights from the last releases:

  • Model Target Acquisition - An issue was resolved where the acquisition effect was not working for Advanced Model Targets on iOS and Android devices.
  • Wayfinder Performance  - An issue was resolved where the performance of the 3D canvas slowed considerably as more and more Waypoints were added to an experience.
  • Model Target Tracking  - An issue was resolved where a reused Model Target was not tracking in Vuforia View when used in another project with the same Model Target configuration.

Introducing the New Model Target Editor
 with Enhanced Configurations

The quickest and easiest way to configure Standard & Advanced Model Targets - directly inside Vuforia Studio

Advanced Model Targets
Now Available for On-Prem Installations!

You heard it right - on-premises installations can now take advantage of Advanced Model Targets (AMT). This is a major step for customers with on-prem installations wanting to create 360º object recognition. If your organization could benefit from AMTs, make sure to reach out to your Vuforia Studio administrator so that they can update your Vuforia Experience Service (VES) to 9.13.0. If you are the Vuforia Studio admin, simply click the link below to request your secret keys for AMTs - and we will get you up and running in no time!

Advanced Model Targets - Instant recognition from any angle

That's right! Advanced Model Targets (AMT) are a big deal if you are looking to track an object from all sides or multiple pre-defined positions. In comparison to standard tracking, AMTs support the recognition and tracking of an object from a range of up to 360 degrees, without requiring the user to manually align the view with the orientation of the physical object. Perfect for use cases with large, stationary objects that you can walk around, such as cars or tractors.
